Audi is shooting for the moon. The company known for its outstanding models is developing a lunar rover that could make a trip to Earth’s orbital partner as early as 2017. The company is assisting the Berlin-based engineering group “Part-Time Scientists” in the “Google Lunar XPRIZE,” a competition organized for engineers and business enterprises globally. Audi is supporting the lunar expedition with its expert knowledge – and the Audi lunar quattro.

In a news release, Audi said the competition rules state the lunar rover must drive at least one-half kilometer distance on the moon and transmit high-resolution images and video footage back to Earth. The theoretical maximum speed is 3.6 kilometers per hour (about 2.2 miles per hour) – but more important on the rugged surface of the moon are the vehicle’s off-road qualities and safe navigating abilities, Audi said.

While the lunar quattro is not available to the general public, you can come visit Audi of Nashua and take a look at some of the models here on our lot that feature the Audi Quattro all-wheel drive system, including the 2016 Audi A8 L 4.0T Sport Sedan .

The Audi A8 Sport Sedan powered by a 4.0 liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that generates 450 horsepower and 444 pound-feet of torque. With power like that at your fingertips, you’ll never be late to work or a family engagement again! Power is sent to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and the model comes with the Audi Quattro all-wheel drive system. The combination of engine and transmission gives a whole new definition to the notion of sport sedan, which is no wonder this particular model might be considered a flagship model for Audi.
